Cessna Citation 560XL

The Cessna Citation Excel (Model 560XL) represents a major chapter in Cessna's line of midsize business jets, combining the performance of high-end jets with the comfort and accessibility of light jets. Introduced in October 1994, the Excel was developed to appeal to a segment of the market that valued the performance of the Citation X but at a more affordable and traditional operating cost. The aircraft made its first flight on February 29, 1996, and was certified by the FAA in April 1998. By that time, over 200 units were already ordered, reflecting strong demand from operators seeking a blend of performance and economy.


Built with components from several previous Citation models, the Excel merged the stand-up fuselage of the Citation X (originally derived from the Citation III) with the straight wing of the Citation V and a supercritical airfoil. It was powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW500 series engines and could accommodate up to ten passengers, though most are configured for six to eight in a corporate setup. Its roomy cabin was one of its most appealing features, and production rates quickly rose to an aircraft every three days at the Wichita facility. A total of 308 Excel aircraft were produced before the design evolved into the Citation XLS.


Following the success of the original Citation Excel (560XL), Cessna introduced a series of evolutionary upgrades that built on its strong foundation. The line continued with the Citation XLS in 2004 and the XLS+ in 2008, each bringing improvements in avionics, engine performance, and cabin comfort while maintaining the core appeal of reliability, operating efficiency, and passenger space. These refinements kept the aircraft competitive in the midsize jet market and solidified its reputation among corporate operators and fractional ownership programs like NetJets. With over 1,000 units delivered, the Excel family became one of the best-selling business jet lines in history, demonstrating Cessna’s ability to balance innovation with market needs. Looking ahead, the upcoming Citation Ascend promises to carry that legacy forward with modern updates designed for today’s business aviation landscape.


Overall, the Citation Excel and its successors have left a lasting impact on the business aviation market, with over 1,000 aircraft built and continuing to serve a wide range of corporate, fractional, and military operators around the world.


We acquired this jet as it timed out of it's fleet service. In the charter jet industry, aircraft must adhere to strict maintenance and performance standards, particularly regarding engine life limits. When the engines on the Citation Excel reached their time-before-overhaul (TBO) limits, the cost of overhauling both engines—often exceeding a million dollars—posed a significant financial decision. For many charter operators, especially those managing tight margins and prioritizing dispatch reliability, this milestone marked a practical exit point. Instead of investing in overhauls, which also involve downtime and recertification, operators often choose to sell the aircraft “as-is.” This allows them to reinvest in newer, more efficient jets or models still under warranty, ensuring continuous service availability and compliance with operational requirements for charter certification and insurance.

Honda HA-420 HondaJet

The Honda HA-420 HondaJet marks Honda’s ambitious entry into the aerospace sector, driven by the visionary leadership of engineer Michimasa Fujino. The roots of the HondaJet project go back to the late 1980s, with early experimentation on composite aircraft, such as the MH01 and MH02. By 1997, Fujino had conceptualized a new light business jet, culminating in a prototype flight in December 2003. This initial proof-of-concept aircraft was a result of design innovations inspired by fashion aesthetics and tested in Boeing wind tunnels. After a successful debut at the 2005 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, public interest galvanized Honda’s decision to commercialize the project.


Development of the production-ready aircraft involved a significant investment—estimated between $1 billion and $2 billion. Construction of Honda’s aircraft manufacturing facility in Greensboro, North Carolina began in 2007 and concluded in 2011. The first FAA-conforming HondaJet flew in December 2010, while the first production unit took flight in 2014. The aircraft received FAA type certification in December 2015, followed by certifications in Europe and Japan. By 2024, over 250 HondaJets had been delivered globally, establishing it as a leader in the very light jet category.


The HondaJet has evolved through several significant model variations since its debut. The original HA-420 features twin GE Honda HF120 engines mounted over the wings, a composite fuselage, and a top cruise speed of 422 knots. To enhance early models, Honda introduced the Advanced Performance Modification Group (APMG) upgrade, improving range, avionics, and takeoff performance. In 2018, the HondaJet Elite launched with an extended range of 1,437 nautical miles, quieter cabins, and refined Garmin G3000 avionics. This was followed by the Elite S in 2021, which raised the maximum takeoff weight and introduced autothrottles. The Elite II, certified in 2022, further boosted range to 1,547 nautical miles and incorporated Garmin's emergency autoland system. Looking forward, Honda is developing the HA-480 Echelon, based on the 2600 Concept, which will accommodate up to 10 passengers, fly up to 2,625 nautical miles, and become the longest-range single-pilot business jet in its class when it enters service later this decade.


In 2024, this Honda HA-420 veered off the runway during landing in Orlando amid strong crosswinds, causing substantial damage but no injuries to the four occupants. The aircraft departed the runway surface, struck a runway sign, and was later found to have damage to the left wing forward spar, though no mechanical malfunctions were reported prior to the incident. The owner decided to sell, landing it in our disassembly hangar.
